§ 1-5. Publication and recording of ordinances.

  • (a)

    All ordinances passed by the president and board of trustees shall be recorded by the clerk in a book kept for village ordinances. The original shall be filed in the office of the village clerk and due proof of publication of all ordinances requiring publication shall be procured by the clerk, which proof of affidavit of publication shall be attached to and filed with the ordinances. The clerk shall also note on his book of ordinances, at the foot of the record of each ordinance, a memorandum of the date of the passage thereof and, if published or posted, the date of such publication or posting.

    (b)

    All ordinances passed by the president and board of trustees shall be written, printed or published on paper uniform in size and substantially the size of each page of this Code, with the left-hand margin thereof sufficiently wide for binding. They will bear a number starting from 1 at the beginning of each year and progressing numerically for each ordinance, followed by a hyphen and the 4 digits of the current year. The village clerk will bind all ordinances in a book or suitable cover in the order of passage, and will maintain therewith a complete index of all ordinances contained therein, together with a memorandum of the date of passage and, if published or posted, the date of publication or posting. The village clerk will have the current book or binder of ordinances available at each regular or special meeting of the board of trustees, and in addition thereto shall keep at least one copy of this Code, which he shall mark in the following manner: Whenever any ordinance which amends or makes an addition to this Code is passed and approved, he shall note in the margin of the section or sections amended that the amendment has been made and where the amendment may be found in the amendment book, and in the case of an addition, he shall make a notation in the appropriate place that such addition has been made, with a similar reference to the amendment book.
